Kerry Blue Terrier Kennel "Byzantine Blue" has been registered in 1999 under FCI number 3999. Kennel name reflects historical and geographical background; Byzantine is an ancient empire in this part of the world. Beside that, kennel name indicates color of Kerry coat; Byzantine blue is name for specific tone of blue color.
In middle age period, Byzantine blue color was widely used for painting sky at frescos in Serbian monasteries and churches. According to legend, this color is uneraseble. It consists of 4 elements: calcium, copper, phosphorus and forth element is a mistery (although fourth element is not known, artist imagination said that forth element is female blood).
Legend about this color inspirated many artists. Famous Yugoslavian writter Milorad Pavic wrote a story that was used for screenplay of movie named Byzantine blue. Music for that movie was written by one of the best Yugoslavian guitarists ever - Radmilo Mihajlovic Tocak.
