This edition seemed excellent and I was very satisfied with 10 QSO the third day morning when my 144 MHz amplifier with a 4CX250B went in QRT. (Plate current up to 600 mA for a few seconds and then ... nothing). I was not regrettably able to repair for the end of the contest, I should redo the polarization, the screen regulation and a part of the high tension. (My amplifier has not a lot of security !) I’ll be present next year, with a greater reliability from my part. Thank you still for the organization. TM1E (F1JRD) ...very nice contest but not so much qso, it was our first try in bcc and we we will try to be qrv next year G0RUZ Hi I didn't make too many qso's this year as I spent a lot of time listening for YL (which by some quirk of fate I still have not worked) and for RK1B. Still I enjoyed the contest as I always do.... The most impressive signals were RZ1AWT,OL2O,9A1CAL,YT7WA and TM1E. Longest bursts were SM2CEW one reached 32 secs at S9! OH5LID (RK1B) Even our pedition was not so seriously, 14 qsos, best 2101km with Claudio I4XCC, several hours cq cq and not any reply, seems that traditional HSCW is not famous anymore and this was my last hscw pedition, next time will be WSJT only. Seems that traditional HSCW is not famous anymore, it was pooring to make cq hour after hour, if efficiensy was over 2 litre beer for one qso, and 1 box cigaretts for 2 qso... Even our setup was small, 6 over 1800km qsos and 2 over 2000km shows that there was fb burst. I think that was my last hscw expedition, next time will run wsjt. Let's hope that in BCC 2002 is also class for wsjt. 9A1CAL: This year we were QRV every night, but made only 6 QSO's more than last year. Activity seems to be lower, maybe because of WSJT? Fair CONDX during the Contest, maximum was around 0300 UTC on 14. 12. Thanks to organizers and everybody we worked. 73's and CU next year. DL5MAE: I am sorry but this year 2 xmas-partys kept me away from the radio too much! Also I think the shower was poor this year. I did not realize any special peak and did not hear much sidescatter/backscatter reflections. Activity seemed to be poor, too. Was this the reason as the contest was during the work-days or due to WSJT? Perhaps we do need new ideas/impulses to awake the CW-MS-scene again? At least I was happy to meet my MS-friends for the anual MS-event: THE BCC MS CONTEST! LA0BY: The Geminid shower was very good around the predicted maximum (04 UT on 14 December). I spent a few hours before going to work. But it faded fast, and there was not much left during the last night. I was running only 200W into a single 9-ele-yagi from my home QTH. I heard (and sometimes called) also SM2CEW, LZ2FO, YO3DMU, RK1B, OH5LK, RA3LE, TM1E, F1DUZ, DL0UL. It seems that the MS-CW activity has been higher the previous years. Did WSJT attract the other people? PA2CHR: Total score was a bit disappointing for me, spent quite some time, but heard most of the time the same stations......... Also some QRL-business came up during my evening-time in the shack. But, nice to generate activity and I will participate next year again. Best 73's, Chris SM1HPV: Thanks for a very nice Geminid´s contest, I will also be back next year 2002. 73´s de SM1HPV/ Karl YZ7UN: This is new expirience for me with 4x10el. DJ9BV: Nice antenna, but not for MS.. Especialy tnx to my friend Nesa, YU7BCL, for giving me chance to work from his location at home in Mokrin Vilage near Kikinda City. Nice contest again but not so many station to work. I had many problems with TVI, especialy last night.Tnx to my friends Voja YU7AV, Nesa YU7BCL, Mica YU7BCL for the nice contest. Best regards to all stations around the Europe and see you next year..... DL8EBW: Thanks to the BCC Team for this contest ! I´m sorry, that I didn´t have so much time this year for the participation, but time runs short with a tiny kid and lot of QRL... Best to all and see you next BCC MS... DJ9FG: With my small equipment ( 10m Transceiver+Transverter, 350W PA, HB9CV, 40m up!) I realised many MS-random QSO´s, even in SSB.... I the past years the activity while the Contest was better, but at that time there was no WSJT yet... DL0UL: ...We noticed a lower participation, many OPs tried the new WSJT. We had to fight with a strong local QRM, but nevertheless we had lot of fun again... DL1MAJ: The second day my antenna rotor was frozen at 40 degree and I had no chance to get it free, but the direction was still OK for lot of QSOs, also via sidescatter. For direction West I used my old 10ele Parabeam and called France, Great Britain and Netherlands... Best 73, Alex DL1SUZ: While the Geminides many stations were QRV in WSJT. Maybe you should create for the next year a category WSJT and/or a category MIXED. I for myself had my first WSJT contacts (without Cluster-help !) with TK5JJ, S51DX and IW0QNX. To reduce the QRM situation on the calling frequency 144.370, I would suggest a modified Letter system with 2.5 Khz steps from for example 144.350 as calling frequency, CQ”A” calls for 144 352.5 and so on.... The new mode WSJT ... ===================== As you can read in many comments, WSJT seems to get more and more interesting for meteor scatter friends. Not only SSB operators, but also wellknown HSCW „freaks” are found on the WSJT frequencies. WSJT is a new program for Weak Signal comunication by K1JT, Dr. Joe Taylor. With the soundcard of a computer you create a 4 - tone FSK with 441 Baud, that means a speed of 8820 WPM (On HSCW we use 1500 to 2500 on an average). So even short pings can transmit lot of information and even very weak signals can be decoded. Under these conditions the transmit / receive periodes could be reduced to 30 seconds in contrary to HSCW with 2,5 minutes for one periode. Similar to RTTY the program will decode the incoming signal and you need only the soundcard in your computer as hardware. The program itself is freeware. We suppose, that these advantages will bring more activity for Meteor Scatter and the BCC contest will consider this fact with new rules for the BCC-MS Contest, including now WSJT. After a long observation of the WSJT operation we recommend following procedure for the BCC MS Contest in WSJT (there is no other contest at this time and after all nearly no activity on SSB!): Because of the great number of WSJT stations use also 144.350 for your CQ. You can call with the wellknown (extended) letter system (look at the HSCW rules) or better use the „BCC - procedure” with the QSX frequency: Call for example (on 144.350): „CQ 68 DF0BV” or „CQ 368 DF0BV”, that means DF0BV´s operating frequency will be 144.368. With the letter system you would call „CQ R DF0BV”. For the very fast WSJT it is much easier to give the last two or three numbers of your frequency. For WSJT it is important to spread out, your bandwith will be nearly to the SSB bandwith. Please respect 144 370 +/- 2 Khz as frequency for CQ outside of the contest. In south Germany we have the problem of a transponder relais on 144.370, so QRM is possible in this region. Central Europe will call normally in the second periode, the OM´s in the periphery will call in the first one. You can take part in HSCW and in WSJT, but each category needs a separate logsheet! You can work a station one time on WSJT and one time on HSCW ! The scoring will be the same as in HSCW, 1 point for random QSO´s and 3 points for random under letter or BCC procedure. Multiplier are the different prefixes. Confirmations via packet cluster are not allowed ! Please send us your experiences and comments about the new mode. You will find the whole rules in German and English on the following pages.... We wish you a successful participation in the BCC MS contest 2002 ! --- Obrada Slobodan Ilic, dec.2002.
