My main target was to activate #KP12 and clean the needs but got qso's so much
that decided to send the log. ContestQTH is in the middle of forest,no cluster,
no net, no chat, no electricity. Due to the (thirsty) power generator supply,
only a fraction of linear output could be used. Stacked antenna gain is16.6 dB,
boom length 9.5m, own desing, on top of 30m mast. Coax 7/8",cables from splitter
1/2", preamp HP-MVV by SHF-Elektronik. Excellent take-off and no QRM. Same 2m
antennas as here but not so icy :) http://www.qsl.net/oh8k/kp12kuura.htm

[OZ2M]

First time I participated in BCC. Really enjoyed it. Many rare stations
emerged from nowhere.....

[ON4KHG]

My HSCW keyer failed so I just listened in that mode. Heard a few stations
(always the same). At least, HSCW is still alive. Poor overall activity;
where were all the stations usually active in sporadic MS ? Nevertheless,
as usual, a lot of fun !
73's, Gaëtan....

[PE1HWO]

Nice contest, but high wind and local qrm limited the hours of my particpation.
Some new stations worked on fsk, I spend some time on hscw too but no qso's
made. Best wishes for the new year to all cloudbusters.

[HG75M (HA3UU)]

I worked first in this BCC MS Contest. Congrats, the BCC is a very good MS contest!
My equipment was FT736R, Driver 2 x MRF317, PA’s 2 x 1 KW, 1st ant 11 m long
boom home brew Yagi, 35 m up to gnd, no elev, 2nd ant 8 m long boom home brew
Yagi, 4 m up to gnd, 20 deg elev-special for MS simultaneously. Computer home
brew AMD K7XP-1900+, 512 MB DDR. Programme: K1JT-WSJT v3.81....

[DF0WD]

....HSCW better as expected, more would have been possible but the number of
stations on FSK441 is really impressive. The restriction regarding the use of
DX cluster is good and worked out quite well. Next time I will reduce TX power
(at least from this good VHF-QTH) Often FSK was just too simple. Low Power
category? Not enforceable but still interesting.

[DF7KF]

This was the first time I operated WSJT seriously. Definitely
this is a chance to work stations which could not be reached
otherwise. Scoring these contacts with half the points in this
contest is - in my view - the correct way.

[EA5ZF]

Sorry I cannot be qrv on HSCW becouse a major problem with the hard
disc on the computer has left in bad state the win98 partition and
MSDSP can not be executed without VOX in WinXP systems (I have'nt vox
in my Transceiver) also have problems with a D4 clock synchronizer...
Also I have encountered a host synchronizer 15 seconds out of time,
that cause my tx and rx 15 seconds out of time during the 1st night.
I'm not agree with the rule concerning the "skeds". Is forbidden make
skeds and is permitted announce frequency and ant direction via cluster
or chat (ej: I'm in .375 calling direction N in 1st period, can you
call me?) ??? Without this rule the contest will be more active and
interesting (I think) Where are the "big guns"??? A lot of hours for
a few QSOs. Low participation in EA, low number of meteors falling. A
lot of stations make public yours frequencys, and qso data during qso
via clusters or Chat

[DK7BY]

I am satisfied to see that WSJT has finally grown up. QSOs using the
letter system resp. the number system were routine this time in the
contest. This was certainly due to the large amount of experienced
operators...

[SP2IQW]

Result would be better but I was "concentrated" on new squares....
Best regards and happy 2004! 73, Michal

[9A1CAL/P]

We decided to go to portable location this time (jn82iw) to give chance
to others to work new square (and avoid local qrm in jn86 as well, hi).
Shower was excellent, we are satisfied with result (98 qso's), but we
were to south to achieve top contest score. There is big difference
working from jn82iw and jn86el (our home qth), it is very difficult to
work Scandinavian and Russian stations from there, seems 360 km shift
to south (distance between jn86el and jn82iw) is playing significant
role. Also, we were using only 300W output due some "incompatibility"
between our power generator and our QRO.

We were qrv wsjt 1st time in the contest, my opinion is double scoring
for hscw is not enough if you want to encourage hscw work. We found hscw
work was just time (and contest score) wasting. In the conditions of low
hscw activity you will certainly collect more points working wsjt only.
If you really want to increase hscw activity, you must something change
in contest rules next year (just an idea: may be involving separate /
repeated multipliers for hscw and wsjt ???).
I don't want to criticize to much work style of other contest participants,
but all comments from last year are still actual: to many impatient stations
disappearing after one call, ignoring ms qso procedure, lot of cluster qso's,
etc ...
Best 73's to all & congratulation to winners, cul next year. Zvonko, 9a6ww

[I5TWK/8]

WX vy good, after changed qth no more probs QRN from power lines nearby.
Shower condx at start not vy encouraging. Checked with some skeds and
reflections were poor and faint. Antenna was only on a 5 mtrs pole over
ground in my garden.Going to the peak condx were ever better, until on
the night of 14-15 dec. were really a challenge! Long bursts from stations
calling at short distance (9a1cal/p and YZ7MON were often 20-30 sec. over
S9+ many times!). Was lacking the usual German people. Don't know, maybe
that openings to more interesting squares toward UA1-UA3 and OH-LA-SM were
polarizing their attention, so very rarely heard of them beaming antennas
toward south. Most QSO were in sidescatter: LZ's with antenna 15° East, SP
and the remaining to N. Nothing from G-PA, don't know why they were discouraged
to run MS. Why italian stations, caming back with good backscatter bursts,
didn't answer me? Maybe they were thinking about tropo. Absolutely not, they
were with antenna toward East or North, so receiving by tropo was impossible.
If I call them, that means I receive scatters and were all vy strong reflections.
I complaint of that, we should have completed (EA3AXV and IZ4AIK mainly) easily
a short path interesting qso.

Finally, we all need more patience (I too), as reflections may be in late and we
have to spend more periods than we like until the qso is completed. That explains
why many fellow that I called for long time didn't anwer me. Too many NC qso.
Some words about HSCW: nothing heard during all the contest, it's dead. To have
some opportunity and work again as old timers (I too am such fellow), we need a
contest ONLY for HSCW and in different date from BCC, I think that the efforts
from HA friends may be of better results if they organize such a contest in
another period of the year, surely will be more appreciated. Of course, all
things of the world are changing, also the interests in VHF enthusiasts.
Thanks for my enjoyment and best 73's

[LA0BY]

This year I was QRV only in WSJT, just to get some more experience with this
mode. Made probably many more contacts than I would have made in HSCW. Had a
hard time to work OM3KFF, because he continued to listen on 144,370 Mhz while
transmitting on my QSY frequency. It took three attempts until I realized that.
Did not catch RK1B/1 who initially talked me into working WSJT. Good reflexions
on the evening of December 14, otherwise rather poor. My equipment was an IC-821H
and PA about 150 W out, antenna 9-ele yagi.

[DL8EBW]

Hallo dear MS friends,
again a year is over and we have to thank the BCC-team for the contest which
always gives us big activity on the 144MHz! Also in 2003 there was a lot
activity and specially in the FSK mode. Anyway which mode some one have had
operated, it was an activity for giving live to the 144MHz segment! Hope to
see you all in good condx in 2004 and receive your logs for the MWS2004 as
well for the VHF-activity contest 2003 and your updates to our
VHF-DATABASE, 73 de Guy (links at: http://www.dl8ebw.de)

[LZ1BB]

I did listen many 2 way QSOs right on 144.370. What was my surprise when
saw after the contest on ON4KST chat that the stations claimed all of
their contacts were 3 points each. Unfortunately some of them were from LZ.
Will see their results... There was even a station who called me on tropo
with Ms procedure to gain points...There was a DX expedition making almost
all of the QSOs right on 144.370. Many, many others doing QSOs on the
calling frequency. I did listen a number of multipliers calling CQ without
QSY frequency on 144.370. I never called them, because according my
understanding making QSOs on the calling frequency during the major showers
is at least not polite and nothing to do with ham spirits. Random calling
should be used for calling only, according my understandings. All in all I
am disappointed. This was my first and I think the last participation in
BCC. It is a circus... I do not want to support an event which just
generate extreme QRM during Geminids. According to me it is useless event.
The only thing I understand after the contest is that WSJT is the progress
and FSK441 generates the random QSO activity. We do have them both without
BCC. Probably the contest commitee should move their future activity on
HSCW only event if not stop at all! Meteor scatter QSO was the art of
gentlemen in the past!!! 73! Harry Popov

[YZ7MON]

Hello MS Friends,
Although, we had equipment for HSCW, unfortunately we haven't done any CW
connection because activity on WSJT's was high all the time. We have notice
that many operators still don't know procedure of MS work. There are more
impatient operators (which quit after second try) then in case of good old
way of work. Beside of complete we have a list of 37 NC QSOs too. This year
we didn't have serious technical problems like past years. It was real
pleasure to meat MS friends again. Reflections was satisfactorily for WSJT
during the whole contest and especially good in two final nights, without
peculiar maximum. Thanks to each and everyone who was calling us.
Congratulations to winners.
See you in 2004.

[DJ9YE]

Nice contest ! Had to struggle with powerline noise and very strong winds
on 14th December (120 km/h). The maximum seemed to be on 14. December in
the evening! See you next year...

[F6CRP]

It was really an excellent idea to have introduced the mixed mode FSK441/A1A,
I was very happy to make QSO in HSCW again. I persist, CW is much more funny
that the FSK441 even if it is less effective or alleged such. In spite of the
many publications, information and discussions, it still remains many stations
which call and make QSO on 370, It is a report which one makes every year. I
found the conditions particularly good in the night from the 13 to December 14
with powerful and long reflexions. Thanks again to DL1MAJ and DL5MAE for the
organization of the most interesting contest of the year.

[OH6ZZ]

Hello
Question about BCC rules / scores
I was qrv during Geminids from KP12bo - main target was to clean the needs of
#KP12 with wsjt but I got so many qso's that this time I should like to send
log into BBC Ms Contest. I called always in 144370 'cq 398'(or 'cq 355') and
listened all the time in 144398.Then as a result normally got 4-5 stations
calling me and picked first one, say call-1 for qso. After call-1 was ok quickly,
say in 5 min,I called next one call-2 with report and made qso with call-2.
Perhaps also with third one. Now the question: is qso with call-2 1-point or
3-point qso? Call-2 found me according to 'cq 398'. Quick calculation so far:
105 wsjt letter 3-point qso's => 315, number of prefix 65 => 20475 points
73 Juho

PS In contestQTH no net, no chat, no cluster, no electricity, only (thirsty)
   petrol power generator :)

Dear Juho,
Each QSO on your QSY frequency counts 3 points. This rule should encourage the
OP´s, to keep the calling frequency clear....
By the way, your result is realy fantastic, congrats! Our new computer qso-check
program didnt find any „bad qso“ in your log...
You win also our special price, the „Original Bavarian HAM Spirit“!

Further prices in our little BCC-MS lottery going to:
Another „Bavarian HAM Spirit“to DJ9YE,

Little Multi Volt - Meters to RX1AX and YZ7MON ! Congrats to the winners !
